Reverend James Valliant founded St. John’s Episcopal School in 1961 on his vision to “send forth well-balanced individuals — disciplined, courteous and self-reliant — generously equipped with academic knowledge.” As the Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Reverend Valliant was resolute in his belief that the power of knowledge should be imparted “within the climate of a warm Christian experience.”
St. John’s remains true to that original vision to this day. We have matured into an independent, intimate, family-oriented school specializing in the education of children through elementary and middle school years. Our commitment to every child is unsurpassed as we focus on their educational and emotional development within a supportive and enriching environment.
The School continues to focus on developing our students in the areas of academics, character, and faith. Our academic programs combine traditional and contemporary programs with the school continuing to include learning math facts, cursive handwriting, and grammar and using a 1:1 laptop program for grades 2 through 8.; Our Traits for Success character education which focus on organization, attentiveness, courage, faith, persistence, positive attitude, flexibility, generosity, and responsibility. Students receive religious education from the youngest ages, and kindergarten through eighth grade students attend chapel services each week, with the Eucharist is offered each month. At the same time, in keeping with the Episcopal tradition, each family’s religious tradition is respected.
